Cable Modem Phone
Its odd that advertisements for broadband phone service are all over the place, and yet there are many people who have no idea what it is all about. Sure, every website, witty television commercial, and radio spot tells you how much money you can save, but the story seems to be missing something. Before you make any sort of decision on phone service, it is always a good idea to know a few of the pros and cons going in. To that end, here are some of the pros and cons of cable modem phone service.
The first pro, just like the silly TV ad says, is that it is cheap. With broadband phone service, you will save significantly over a regular phone and long distance plan. You may have heard that national long distance is included with cable modem phone service, but you can also make international calls at a significant discount.
The second pro that is not quite as well known is that most broadband phone services are portable. As long as you have broadband access, you can sign in and use your account. In other words, it is like email with a phone. This, in fact, may be cable model phones greatest pro.
On the con side of things, broadband phone service is lost when there is a power outage. With a traditional phone, you can talk through a power outage in most cases. If you live in an area prone to power outages, then, a cable modem phone may not be for you.
Last, on the con side, broadband phones are not 911 traceable in most places. With a traditional phone, 911 knows where you are once you call whether you can speak or not. With a broadband phone, you may be able to get through, but if you cannot talk or are injured to where you cannot be understood, you will be untraceable.
Now that you know a little about broadband phone service, you will know what all the hype and advertisement is about. You can certainly save money and the portability is great. However, keep in mind that the power and 911 issues are still being worked out. Armed with the pros and cons, though, you at least can take these factors into consideration as you decide whether or not to jump on the cable modem phone service wagon.
